Nestled on Chibahal Galli in Kathmandu, Luwangsha Restaurant & Bar is a hidden gem awaiting culinary adventurers. While it may not boast an extravagant façade, the charm of this café lies in its authenticity and the warmth of its husband-and-wife team who are dedicated to providing a joyful dining experience.

Focusing primarily on traditional Nepalese cuisine, this quaint spot offers an array of dishes that are both flavorful and satisfying. The portions are famously generous, making it an excellent value for travelers and locals alike. Guests rave about the fried rice and noodle soup, alongside the must-try MoMo—delicious dumplings filled with spiced meat or vegetables. Imagine sinking your teeth into these tender, warm packages paired with a sprinkling of spicy chutney that tantalizes the taste buds and brings a comforting warmth on a cool evening.

The atmosphere at Luwangsha is quite laid-back, resembling a cozy home rather than a typical restaurant. This is where you can truly savor your meal without the distraction of hustle and bustle. Diners have described the experience as exceptionally homestyle, which makes every bite feel like a home-cooked meal. Whether you’re catching up over drinks or enjoying a hearty meal, the friendly, attentive staff ensures that you're well taken care of.

Many patrons share glowing reviews, highlighting not just the food but the caring environment fostered by the owners. Richard Clapton emphasized the value for money with their sizeable portions, while Mun jen Ng noted that, despite its unassuming appearance, Luwangsha stands out for delivering some of the best Nepalese food you could imagine. Wiktor Rozmus summed it up perfectly, stating it’s the best local Nepali food you can get in Thamel, all without unexpected charges!

The portions here are SO big! Which makes the value super good. We ordered fried rice, the noodle soup and MoMo but we probably would have been fine with just one! The restaurant is quite hard to find but totally worth the wonder and both the cooks (husband and wife team) really come across as though they care about your comfort and experience! Highly recommended.

This place doesn’t look like much. Actually, it looks less than that. But the food is exceptionally good. I’ve travelled all around the world and have eaten some amazing things and this small place can hold its own and represent how homestyle cooking should be. Diagonally across from the Milestone hotel, this small unassuming place has some of the best Nepalese food I’ve ever had. The stir fried potatoes (hash browns) had the right amount of spices and wok heat while their momo’s in soup was some of the best broth and dumplings I’ve ever had. Savory, garlicky, and spicy with a tang of lime. If you don’t think Nepal food is anything special, try this place and you will change your mind. I didn’t try their “Americanized” dishes. Why would you ? You’re in Nepal. And did I mention, this place is cheap. 3.25 USD for hash browns, momos and a cup of coffee.

Absolutely the best local Nepali food that you can get in Thamel. The whole local is just a house adjusted for tourists. They have not added hidden charges and prices are excellent.

Very tasty Chomein, amazing Khale set dish with roasted rice flakes, potato curry and chilli peanut salad, very tasty and filling noodle soup. Cheapest eatery in Thamel but not missing the quality

Very good food for best (unbeatable) price. The place does not look fancy at all and is easy to miss it. Located next to "Great Wall Htl" is great alternative for dining at the hotel. I recommend C-MOMOs.
